Appco Group also known as Cobra Group - Is it a scam? I certainly know from experience!

Appco/Cobra Group - The Truth!
Well, well, well. Where do we start? Appco group also known as the Cobra group - the name it was established as, by the Appco celebrity who we all know and love(yeah right) "Chris Niarchos". This company was established in the 90's and they will tell you it has being growing from strength to strength over the last 20 years. This may be true, but at whose expense? The dummy's that jump on board and think they can get promoted to ownership and run a successful business with all of their help. That's right, you go there with no experience in direct sales and no experience in running a business but wow, you get that from the Appco Group. If only that was the case...

My experience at the Appco Group
Now I am going to talk about my own experience I had at an Appco Group company based in Glasgow, Scotland.

I gave the Appco Group company a call to find out if they had any vacancy's available for jobs after seeing an advert in a local newspaper stating earnings where £250 - £500 per week. This is just what I needed. So I called, and was greeted by someone very friendly over the phone. We had a brief chat and I was amazed at the end of the phone call she invited me in for an interview. Things were starting to look up for me (so I thought).

So I headed along to the interview and sat patiently waiting in a cue of about 6 of us. Finally got my shot at the interview and was amazed at how good it went. To be quite honest all the guy talked about was himself and his company and how good it was. No chat about earnings, hours or what sort of work we would be doing, even though I asked the questions. His words were "If your successful in this part of the interview you will have it explained to you later on". So as I listened to a little more he had to say, answered a few questions (and I mean a few), he so kindly asked me back for a second stage interview. I am not the only person that was invited back either, everyone that was there that day also got told to come back. Interview? I don't think it was. Just a guy sitting talking a load of rubbish about the company and how bloody amazing it is!

The next part of the interview was the so called observation day, where you go out on the "field" and observe the person knocking on doors trying to sell the product. In this case, it was sky packages we were selling. If you are reading this and you have been on your "Ob" day as they call it, you will have noticed how unbelievably friendly everyone is. They are told to be friendly to new guys, its one of their strict rules.

However, things are totally different once your past that first hurdle and to get to leadership. Which to be honest, most people do within a week or two. I personally done it the first week. When you start the business development programme as Appco call it, you start to see everyone's true colours. All the bickering that goes on, the conflicts people have with one another, the office politics and all the other negative stuff that goes on. They are not as friendly any more and you may as well blend in with the wallpaper.

Now you have reached the so called business development programme, you now are required to take out observations and fill their heads with the load of jargon that you are programmed to say. Not only do you lie to them about how much money you make. Even though you are living below the bread line, you are expected to pay for their lunch and their travel to and from the field. It is not feasible whatsoever.

This is because they are all brainwashed with the systems (I was too). If you believe in them apperently you will eventually go on to own your own business. In all of my time being there (nearly 2 years), I only seen one person get promoted to ownership. Bearing in mind this guy had been there for four years.  His company was set up and in about 4 or 5 months later. What do you know, he had to go on a re-train and is still re-building his crew at the moment. So it took him 4 years to build that crew, how long will it take this time round? Another 4 maybe, who knows.

It is not anyone's fault who works there. It is down to Appco themselves. They are good at selling the positive aspects of the business to you and leave out anything that even has a hint of negativity. And if you dare to say anything about the negative side of it. Well, "you are just being negative" I got told. It is like, it all has to be kept a big secret and no one should know.

What Appco Actually pays
In my time at Appco I made relatively good money. I was earning around £400 - £500 a week. Sounds a lot yeah? Well in fact its not. For the amount of hours you put in, it is definitely not worth it. You are in the office from around 11am until 9pm. Usually later than this though if you are building a crew. Here is some calculations I done...

Let's go with the high figure £500 a week
minus 20% tax = £400 a week
minus NI £3 = £397
Public Liability Insurance £3 = £394
Transport from the office to the field and return. We will go with around an average of £5 a day £30 = £364
OK so these are your business expenses... all required... and in a residential office you'll work from 1100 till 2100 in the evening (modest times I'm sure you'll agree) Saturday 0900 till 1400 = 55 hours a week
364/ 55 = £6.60 an hour after tax!!! The minimum wage is £6.08 an hour. So you are barely a kick in the teeth off it.
Also your lunch will be around £5 a day (skipping dinner time also), £30 a week = £334.
And do not forget about your ob's... You have their expenses to cover also. Transport and lunch too.

Does £500 still sound a lot to you? You make the decision! I hope you make it wisely...

  1. I had a similar experience at Appco! They treated me like crap. When you were not doing well it is all your fault. Stop being so negative was all I got.

    They couldn't run a tap...

  4. i was at Appco (Maximus global direct - old street London) for a week and 4 days. First off you love it, they make you feel like your awesome, you hear success STORIES! e.g (trips abroad, 6 grand rolex watches)*yawn yawn*. Promised promotions, cult-like chants, bells rung and congratulating high 5's all around are all done to attract you, trick you, brainwash you and keep you motivated on a psychological level where you wont even realize how this is all happening! Luckily i was able to see past all of the complete BS while keeping up a good attitude before quitting very abruptly as soon as i recieved my s*** £90 pay and just after being promoted to level 2.

They are just a bunch of sick, money hungry people that thrive off of the sweat of naive, desperate and hardworking individuals.

It's amazing how every office across the country seem exactly the same in the way they operate. It's a sick cult-like culture in those buildings and it needs to be put to an end! They are making alot of peoples lives a living hell! People need to wake up and smell the coffee. No i am not "negging-out!" i am simply being real and opening my eyes. They thought they could pull the wool over my 18 year old eyes - not me son!

    1. Lol I recently joined the Old Street one as well, but I was working for Innovation Marketing (I guess they're all the same thing since they shoved us in the same room for meetings.

I even remember them talking about how much money that girl saved up for her Rolex haha. I left after my first day of selling (Wednesday to be exact) once I realised how much it resembled slave labour. By the way, I was the one pretending to laugh at all their cheesy humour during the meetings.

    2. I went for interview yesterday, i guess you have heard about this guy name Lawrence Lenzi? my "crew leader" said to me that he earns about 6k a week, and thats not all, there are so many other upcap % to add on. I wonder if he really started at stage 1 like us?! he's only been in that business for 8 years, is that even achievable!?

the funny thing about them is that my visa status is still unknown, yet they are willing to hire me immediately?! is that even legal?! i dont have national insurance, not even a confirmed visa, im non EU graduate as well! they seem to be so.....dodgy...

  5. Thank you for the great tread,
I was on an OB day in Toronto yesterday and found it strange that the girls mention liking making money but had awful clothes, and that the office building were they are located looked like it was about to get demolish. I guess their presentation is very convincing. And thank god for all the info I found on them I will not waste my time with them and accept a real career opportunity instead now the choice is clear.
Thank you all for saving me the mistake of joining appco :D

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wow, I wish I had found this sooner because it would have saved me from wasting my time yesterday! I applied for a very vague 'marketing/office job' and it turned out to be Appco. After a phone interview I was invited to a first and second interview, and was amazed when I got the job. Everyone seemed really friendly and kept going on about how it's such a FUN workplace, have a high five, look at all the BANTER HA HA HA...even then I found it really hard to swallow because it just seemed so fake and annoying. But I thought I'd stick it out for just one day, thinking it would be fine once I got used to it.

Again like a lot of people, I was drawn in by the lure of high earnings and good progression opportunities, thinking 'yes I've finally got a proper job!' Sat through the induction day and ate up all the bullshit like everyone else. The next day two other new people had already left, so clearly those were the smartest in the group.

I was put with a mentor and basically followed her from door to door from 12 til 8pm. In the freezing cold and wearing my 'smart office clothes' I was told to wear, so no comfy shoes or anything! Felt really shit about knocking on people's doors because honestly, we all hate those people when they come to our houses. Made no sales. Obviously.

Also everyone was weirdly nice to me, obviously in hindsight because they were told to be. Everyone kept telling me what an amazing job I was doing, how great I was, all because I agreed to do a couple of pitches on the first day. I realised I'd just done 8 hours unpaid work, and that even if I managed to make their minimum of 2 sales each day, which seemed like an impossibility, I would still be barely scraping minimum wage for the hours I worked. I would be better off working in McDonalds, at least I'd be warm and safe and get a break every now and then!!

One other thing that also set off alarm bells is how dangerous it seemed to send people off on their own after dark with nobody knowing where they are. Maybe I'm just overly paranoid, but as a petite young-looking woman I would have felt very unsafe wandering around different neighbourhoods on my own in the dark, and being expected to go into absolutely anybody's houses if they invite you in. Sorry but fuck that. One girl who started at the same time as me brought this concern up during the induction, and was basically just brushed off and told to calm down.

Anyway sorry for the huge rambling post, but basically I feel very stupid for falling for the scam, but glad I found out about this NOW and not after wasting even more of my time running around like a sucker! I'll probably end up writing a full blog post about this too, because more people deserve to hear about it so they won't get fooled like I did.

    1. Hi Florence,
I had the EXTACT same experience at the Appco location in downtown Toronto in Spring of 2013. They wanted to take me to Pickering, Ontario (a good hours' away) and against my better judgement, I went. I had this building feeling of "this is just not right" the entire time, and as soon as I found out that they expected me to go out with them door-to-door I knew that my gut had been right.

I made up something about having to be some where for 5pm and hopped on a GO train back home. Insane! This place is a scam, big time.

    1. previously, i also work for appco malaysia (perak) for about 4 months. the manager told me that the working hours is 8.30am to 6pm for weekdays and 9.00am to 4.00 for Saturday. they are really nice in the beginning. they placed me in an event because i was new guy to do charity. but after a couples of weeks they start to placed me in the street (i was standing in-front of maybank (usually) r any bank for charity plus we need to hold the board asking for people signature to show some 'support'.

then, they start to show their true color by badmouth each other. the salary is low. i only can get around rm250-rm400 every week. they say saturday work for half day only, but we need to work until night. we also need to work until midnight depending on the event.

they also expect us to move to the next level by training more people. by training more people it means you need to spend more time in the office before and after work time. we need to come early to office (8.00am) to let him brainwash us. after that go to the territory (10.00am to 6.00pm), and go back to office (6.00pm to 9.00pm) for 'training'. that is the routine if we are not going to road trip. the salary i got is not enough because i need to to also pay for my new guy's food (we MUST take care of out new guy's properly), toll, car fuel.

they also has SECRET. if the submission we received previously is reject, then the money for the next week will be deducted to cover the payment they already paid for that submission. there was 1 week i dont has salary because of that. it makes me really sad. usually, we need to work on sunday also to cover the reject.

the weirdest part is, we are doing charity. we get money for every submission we got. but how can the company and appco get more money than us? we dont has enough money, but still appco can arrange a very expensive event for all employee at 5 STAR hotel, plus event at expensive place for 'selected workers'? they told us this the our dream job, but actually all of them are using us to get money. my leader always tell me her dreams: she want to buy BM* cars once she become branch manager and her wedding will be in one of most luxurious hotel here, BUT unfortunately, she cannot even pay for her own paratha. haha...

I was a little skeptical, but after finding out more myself, I think the opportunities are tremendous and I guess those with too much analysis won't get much in life. After all, I have taken the leap and look back at those people who are still wondering what will it be like to jump off that cliff. I'm enjoying myself here, what's the worst I thought to myself.

  11. Yeah I just had an interview with them in their New York office... but I had all ready tried this type of job for another company that turned out to be a carbon copy of what you just described. The interview and spectacular money making presentation went the same way. I worked at that company for 2 weeks walking around in the freezing cold trying to sell energy UNPAID!!! I quit after that...I didn't even bother going to the observation day with Appco, at least company promises you a salary of 35K plus bonuses (maybe I'm not sure if there are any requirements to get this because I didn't attend the ob day). but I'm not walking the streets of NY all day and night trying knocking on peoples doors in order to get them to donate money to some obscure charity. The next thing is they told me on the phone their client was the red cross and unisex. However, during the 1st "interview" we were told about some obscure charities that we would sell. Red Cross and Unisef weren't done at this office. So basically I was suppose to sell charities that no one has ever heard of in NEW YORK CITY smh! I know as well as anyone that New Yorkers are uptight and arrogant as all hell... Step over the homeless in the street and lock people up without any real due process, charity is not a NY thing. I'm a new yorker, I know!!! (I'm fortunate to be a 1st generation Yankee, so my family taught me differently, but sometimes it's still within me too)

    2. I also ended up working for some scamming low lives in NYC as I had no green card and desperately needed work. They fined me for being late then withheld my pay when they fired me for being late for the 8.30am impact meeting after working till 10 pm each night. Next place was run by an alcoholic bloke who was funny as he was no half arsed due to being hungover. The clients we were selling for were crack heads. Yeah, not the best career move even for the most disadvantaged of individuals. Most of the time we just went to some ghetto ass mall in New Jersey and ripped off a bunch of 16 year olds. Unfortunately these companies that have big clients (obviously not these ones who had only crackhead hair salons) are being funded by big businesses like sky, Npower, and other similar firms and will continue unless their greedy big businesses that support them stop ripping everyone off by allowing this to happen.

Stick at it and it will show, but you have to go through the bullshit to get to the good shit, now the difference is between trying to go through the bullshit but getting stuck in it or actually getting to the good shit, all up to you, everything is what you make of it

  15. I worked at Appco for 4 years so alot of experience. So I know everything. Now for a student to work there and you know your defo going back to uni if you get good never become a leader cause the obs cost will kill you, but if you are serious it could take you 2-5 years of super hard work but it is possible if you can do 2-8 sales a day and your a likable person you will build a team and very likely get to ownership. But not to pull the wool over ppls eyes not that many people make it, but it is down to effort. I dont work there any more because my leader who was there 7 weeks befor me got promoted and moved to a different city but i didnt go with him, so i seen the full structure of promotion through him with my help to and i wasn't to far behind. Then having my leader by my side 3 and a half years straight every day losing him made me lose my drive to keep going and that was the only reason i left. 0 and 1 sale aday if you can't pass that hump after 8 days work your probably going to fail. But if there is 2 days in that 8 that you do 2-8 then that shows promise. I dont owe the company anything so thats just truth from my experience. Alot of things said above are very true but alot of ppl cant share cause they only had a week or so experience. Its just like this if some tells you, you can be a super star footballer but your not to good in your first week and you give up your probably going to share a bad experience on how bad the team or the players or the coach was. My old leader has been there 4 years a 5 months now and he has banked 40k in his first 8 months of being a owner thats after tax and expenses with paying your self a salary of around 25k. So I say to ppl give it 10 working days if you cant get more than 2 sales atleast twice quit 2 sales a day is just over £200 if you didnt know. Obviously aim for 4 and 5s a day tho lol.

I will attend their second interview tomorrow in hong kong.. but i guess i wont attend after reading the comment here and from other sites. first of all, personally, selling in the street is not my type of work, so dont need to think further. at first, i thought this is a marketing company, and as they said in the first interview, it is below the line marketing company. i thought we can touch things like direct mailing, coupon, stuff like that, and at most we get sales outside but not like this standing at the stalls..

    I have some advice:

    LEAVE FUCKING RIGHT THIS INSTANT.

Hadyn Murdoch has not been promoted in more than 15 years and earns less cash than my friend Bernard, whom he once yelled at and called stupid for wanting to go to University.... Bernard went to Uni, and now he works as a project manager for the Queensland State Government earning a 6 figure Salary. While Hadyn is STILL DOING THE SAME CRAPPY JOB HE DID IN 2002!

  22. I got selected for legion it works for appco. The job profile seems to be same, going door to door selling products, asking for charities etc.Even in Mumbai they have the same pattern of working. Lure unsuspecting people and make them work like slaves. If u ask in 1000 houses u will definitely get some sales. From that they will easily cover your salary and make profit. My advice is don't join unless like doing this.

We arranged an interview for tomorrow and then I started to do some research over the company. First through its website. And even after reading the whole site, I couldn't understand what they were doing. the speech is so vague.
I made other research on google and started to find interesting things about the company and the legal issues encountered.

  28. I will not say much, but just would like to answer any question regarding Cobra/Appco. I read some of the comments and know for a fact that I am best placed to answer truthfully about this company. The reason why I feel that I am best placed to do this is because I joined the company back in 1989 when it just arrived in the UK and started in a flat in Paddington. At the time the founder Chris Niarchos was still working in Australia. I went on to spend almost 14 years with the company and ran offices in Kenya. I am not on here to promote nor slam the company but to tell 100% the truth and answer any question you want to know. I will not hide a thing. The reason why I want to do this is because I think it is fair for people to know what it involved when working with this company.

    Thanks.

But i just nod and just wait for my turn.. tomorrow is my training day, they said they will bring me to join them doing the job i dont know maybe in the mall or something.. during my 1st interview i showed them my diploma, university certificate and all my result, and its like they dont even care about that.. now i know why.. i already wasting my 2 days for this interview..

  30. Thanks for the post. I went through almost the exact same procedure. Ended up working for 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, doing door to door sales, and never getting paid. Awful.

I’m compiling a list of all these companies – feel free to add any: http://doortodoortruth.wordpress.com/companies/

Beware of: Global Net ( http://www.globalnet.org ), Blue Ocean Outsource Ltd, Corner Rock Ltd and Rainbow Mark Limited at Unit 8, Cumbrian House, 217 Marsh Wall, Poplar, London E14 9FJ

  31. The reality is that this company will keep on thriving as people cling onto any hope they are given in today's economy for a better life. Lawrence lenzi, Simon murphy, Mars cowley and all of the organisation that knows what they are doing to people are evil human beings, or maybe they have convinced themselves that they are helping young people through opportunity. There is no difference between them and cult leaders. But again they are morally toxic so from working there for 2 years myself I can assure you that they wont change and if you are considering a job there, make yourself ready for absolute hell 6 days a week.

  32. I'm from South Korea, and seeking a job these days. During searching website providing job information, I finally found Appco Korea. Its job description was so vague, but I convinced it would be very nice job for me. Because it introduced itself as a big global company that helps NGO's fundraising, the job description was enough to fascinate me to apply for.
However, I couldn't find any information about Appco except for their advertisement. So I tried to find Appco's information from overseas sources, and lastly came here by googling. There are few people who know about this company. Thank you for saving my time. I'll let people around me know this evil group.

  33. No doubt about this compary in the way they treated people are the same globally. As I was trapped in Appco Thailand, the way they treated people are as crap as you can be. No monthly income once you passed probition(which they will make to pass within a week or two). Your income will be based on your commission, and that most of that money were spent mostly on food and traveling expenses both for yourself and for your trainee. No other benefits ever given from this company. Late working hour, since you have to go to the office at around 9am, hit the field around 1pm, finish around 9pm and that was it. your routine repeated daily. Yes, its tired and the money are that that worth what so ever.

Besides, this company will trick you by having many small branches under different name. The way this company do their job is just so sick, the environment was full of greedy people who are completing with each others, faking that they are family while the inside there are million of conflicts against each other. If you ever said something wrong or asked question, they will be like "don't be so negative". These people scared themselve to death of people would share their negative thoughts to new comers and to others and that is why senior executive are required to observe everyone thoughts and convert them into the way the company is expected to be.

  34. Has anybody made an official complaint about the company? My 18 year old daughter has been working for them for a month now, and they've really worked a number on her! She thinks she has this amazing opportunity even though she's working killer hours for less than half minimum wage. She thinks these people are her friends and that they care about her! I've spoken to HMRC and National Minimum Wage hotline, as I don't believe the position technically falls under self employment - the hours are pretty much set, training provided by company etc. They would investigate only if a complaint is made by a worker. If this applies to you, please please please call them to make a complaint - 0800 917 2368.

I have also emailed a lot of the charities that use APPCO services...

    Dear Sirs

I am writing with regard to your use of Appco and their affiliated companies for your fundraising efforts. My daughter has been working for this company for a month now, working 70+ hours per week for under £100.00

Having researched Appco, Cobra and the company set up, it has become clear that this is a company that exploits the young, vulnerable and desperate people that are searching for work. I am sure that you must be aware of the reputation and stories about Appco, they have been covered by national TV and Newspapers.

As a humanitarian charity that supports young people, I am somewhat disgusted that you facilitate the exploitation of vulnerable people within our society. It appears that the majority of the contributions raised in this way are distributed between those at the top of the Appco pyramid, and not to either your charitable efforts or the poor souls knocking on doors for 12 hours a day.

I would be interested to hear your reasons for using Appco to market your charity.

If more people put pressure on the charities not to use them, maybe they would cancel their services?? I emailed The Red Cross, The British Legion, The Children's Society, RSPCA, British Heart Foundation, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, VSO, Scope, Maggie's, RAFA and Battersea Dog's Home.

Next step is lobbying DWP. The only way this will all change is if everybody stands up to them. Any help with all this would be greatly appreciated!!

  37. I applied for an 'Entry-Level' Management Position for a company called Innovate Industries. Their ad was very vague, but were looking for people that they could groom into management positions. I decided to send in my resume' for consideration.

Much to my surprise, I got a phone call within 24 hours stating that they wanted to speak to me on the phone and ask a few questions. So I did. The lady on the phone was commenting on my sales experience (I worked commission only for a legit company for 5 years). I politely told her I wasn't really interested in commission only positions anymore, but was interested in entry level management position. She set me up with an in-office interview the next day.

So I walk in, and find myself in a VERY sparsely-furnished office with about 6 other people sitting and waiting to be interviewed. The 'owner' or 'president' or whatever he was calling himself that day brought me back to his office. He started commenting on my sales experience and said that even though he knows I'm not interested in commission-only sales any longer, that's all he had at that point. Before I could say anything, he started talking about how just 5 months ago he was in the same position as I am now, and that in just under a year, he went on to become an owner of his own company and will make six figures this year. All the while he is telling me this, he is glancing at his computer monitor. He was clearly reading from a script. Anyways, he tells me the Verizon has contracted them to go door-to-door to FiOs. I decided to go on a ride-along with his 'Assistant Manager'. This guy proceeded to tell me how he owned his own business writing contracts for GSA (General Services Administration), but despite being fairly wealthy, he decided to sell the business because his quality of life wasn't that great. When we got back to the office, they wanted me to fill out additional paperwork, but I just left. I did some research on Facebook, and found that the guy I was riding with was a University of Phoenix Grad (nothing wrong with that), and before that was a high school graduate. No mention of his business. The lady I interviewed with on the phone was posting half nude pics of herself on Facebook.

The gentleman I interviewed with texted me and asked me what happened. I replied asking if he was part of Smart Circle, or Cobra Incorportaed (big multi-level pyramid schemes here in the U.S.) He replied asking me why I was doing so much digging online. I texted him back asking if they offer any benefits. No. Do you offer retirement? No. Do you reimburse for mileage? No. Finally he texted me back and said it was nice to meet me.

2 days later, I apply for a job at an advertising firm called Sharper Advertising Inc. To my surprise (or lack thereof I suppose), the company was located at the same address as Innovate Industries was. I received an email asking to come in for an interview...this is how stupid they are. I replied to them stating I interviewed with them two days ago when they were calling themselves something else.

A good way to sniff out these scams, is to ask them if they offer benefits, retirement, vacation pay, etc... then ask if they reimburse for mileage, then ask what their BBB rating is (Better Business Bureau). Finally ask them if they are part of Smart Circle, or Cobra Inc. That conclude your interview pretty quick.

Company Reg no: 08437993, and trade under the address: Kreative Client Solutions, Angel House, 3rd Floor, 225 Marsh Wall, South Quay, London, E14 9FW

  40. people who are leaving comments that are attacking this company are cleary those who didn't make it really far. of course each company will be giving more based on performance, would you as a owner pay for someone to travel if they are doing shit?

im sure everyone would agree that, building your own business requires time + effort + $$ right? since you guys are not putting any money to invest at the first place, what the hell is wrong with increasing your time and effort? people who believe a job can bring you really far without having to put in extra time and effort, keep sitting at home and keep dreaming! If you make the business sound so retarded, and yet you can make it in such a simple concept, arent you guys even more retarded? its easy to sit and complain guys.. time to actually get off your ass and do something about it. if the company can go global for 26 years.. proves the system works! if anything you can do, is to improve and fine tune it!

  41. I wish I'd read this before I wasted an entire day in New York on my "Observation Day" after being interviewed for a "marketing/sales" position the prior Friday. There was zero mention of going door to door and I was pretty shocked when that's what it turned out to be. I was told to wear similar clothes as to my first interview (a suit and tie)- then we ended up walking all over a NYC suburb for 3+ hours. Madness.

  43. Today I had my observation day (second day)at Appco in Antwerp, Belgium (World trade center)
Everything happened as you said: you get a presentation about the earnings, their world wide expansion and blablabla. They give you success stories about people that work(ed) there. After that I got a coach that I went with to a town to sell subscriptions (not sure right word) for an electricity company called Eni.
At first all seemed fine, working hours maybe a bit long and late but, oh well, you got to do that to earn 500euros a week!

I noticed everyone was friendly and enthusiastic to me, but like THAT friendly I felt like this was sort of faked. Also all these workers told me how big they were going to make like "buying a lamborghini" or "starting an office in switserland". Yet when we drove with his car to the meeting point, he drove an old rusty Peugeot from like I would say the late 90's, even tough he said he worked there for 2 years already.

Not saying with proof this is a scamming company but I didn't take the offer because it just sounded too good to be true and they all went like extravagantly congratulating me for making it as "one of the few". Even tough I barely did anything to make myself accepted and noticed every other appliant i met from the first day got accepted.

It just didn't feel right and that's why I went searching on the internet, and these posts confirmed it, apart from these I found some other websites claiming the exact same.
Thank you all for posting, I actually went to sign a contract tomorrow.

  44. The Appco group is just one tentacle of the global direct sales cult known to some as Devilcorp.

The BBC, The Mirror, The Daily/Sunday Telegraph and the New Zealand Herald have written numerous articles about this organization. They are about to be investigated by the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing in N.S.W..

If you go to thedevilcorp.wordpress.com you will find a plethora of links to new reports, government rulings, lawsuits and video footage showing how these people do business

  47. Unless you are 18 years old and looking to pass some time, don't bother. I worked as a salesperson under Appco whilst travelling in Australia, and all the above comments I have read are consistent with my experiences. I left the first team meeting believing I was the sales gun Australia had been waiting for. They made it sound like making huge money was going to be a walk in the park. The morning meetings, the generic motivational speeches, the rah rah fist pumping type talks that can only inspire for about 6 weeks. However, once you have spent time in the field and are scrapping to get 2 sales a day, reality sets in. I felt like I had become part of a cult, brainwashed into believing that this was a future to invest in. Clearly it wasn't.

All the 'owners' who market their charities under Appco are incredibly wealthy. And it is all money made off the donations of an uninformed public. Most of the donations that are supposed to help charities end up lining the pockets of those higher in the command chain, whilst the rookie salesmen sweat under those above them in this scheme.

Anyway that's my advice. Don't want to be negative, that was my experience. I did learn some good skills, both business and people based. But I think I can also recognize a " too good to be true let's all get brainwashed together and talk jargon for 10 hours a day " scenario now when it's in front of me.

  52. Today I got call for 2nd round of interview 21/5/2015 with invention marketing group for position event and management trainee. Based on this company parent under Appco Group Malaysia located Hq at Kuala Lumpur. The 1st interview only takes about 15 minute, the session only ask about myself and my education background. The interviewer didn't inform the basic salary and working time only he shiw the magazine the successful workers for Appco.

After one day I shortlisted for 2nd round interview, the caller inform the time will take 3hrs and it was group interview.(this first time for me to get a job need spend hours for interview, how about working hour we'll maybe longest time as I think. I was prefer 8hrs normal working hours)

After get reading from appcogroup.asia I believe this company well involved in marketing. The site very well looking and more info but not not specified what are the product for direct selling. Yes they mention big company for charities eg Wwf and unicef. This is NGO or profit seeking company? How can u get fundraiser and same time you want get profit because you are looking for charities.

After reading this site and comments I dicided not going for 2interview. Don't give a chance for them to brainwashed, the door-to-door selling it's not my type, I was looking for real marketing not tricky selling. Maybe this direct selling suit to other but not for me. This company also misleading in title for job vacancy as advertised.

  53. Oh superb. I was just researching scams online. I was going through the alphabet in the google search bar so my keyword was "scams" then the letter "C".

    Oh guess what Cobra group.

Now the thing is about the Cobra group and that nasty little BL's is that I have had personal workings with this bunch of low life. I never worked for them. I worked for a printers where they had all their printing done. Back in the day they were promoting a card that they called "The Granton Card" and the BL (Business Leaders) would all come in looking very business orientated, you know serious, business like and to be honest wearing cheap suits and plastic shoes. They got ever so excited about their cards!

I felt sorry for the ones who got sucked in and they normally left after seeing how as you say the complete wickedness would show after a day or so.

One weekend I was asked to go and design a card for them on a Saturday. Now back then I was considerably younger than I am today and on the Friday I had gone out and sunk a fair few drinks. I was not feeling the best shall we say.

The BL man came in all sprightly, not a hair out of place, papers in hand, cheap suit adorned and plastic shoes polished. He thrust into my hand various pictures of the business he wanted me to design this day. Close up pictures of pizza did not have a good effect and coupled with his cheap Brut aftershave I threw up. This did not go down well and thankfully I was asked to leave the Cobra account on Monday. Nowadays I work online. If you like visit my site just for information, no need for money http://gotowebguy.com

  54. Currently in my 2nd week working for AppCo Malaysia and it sucks balls. Worked the hell out of me and the naivete of colleagues is just plain bemusing. This guy told me, "Think of it as your own business. The more effort you put in the more money you'll make." Except a private business doesn't work that way. If I run my own sundry shop, I determine the price of a pen and I pocket the profit, not some multi-millionaire who owns a racing team determining my income. And, as in many businesses, customers come to me, and I don't need to carry a bloody basket of cupcakes to the street to sell them if I have a bakery!

Although they taught us never to prejudge anyone for customer pitching, the people my colleagues went for were all wearing nice clothes. 3 days on the field and I've already felt like I'm selling my soul.

The promises of all the perks of leadership are bullshit to me. One of the Leaders even borrowed money from me, a newbie! WTF was that? If he's really living so comfortably, then why does he need to borrow money from a guy who's never worked before?

The promises of ownership is bullshit too. In Malaysia, Appco promises that your company will be a private limited (Pvt. Ltd.) company. What they don't explain to you is that most Pvt. Ltd.'s in Malaysia is passed down through bloodline (to your kids) should they elect to continue running the business. My Managing Director changed the topic as soon as I asked about passing my efforts down to a next generation. So, let me ask you this: why toil 20-30 years in something that you think is yours but is actually of the Devil's? Why have a false sense of accomplishment and the illusion of having your own company when you have absolutely no say in many things such as succession and clients? Appco is just wrong in every facet of common sense.

    To be continued...

    ReplyDelete
  55. ...Continued from top

Being a drug dealer is better than this. At least you really know what you're doing is wrong, instead of self-convincing that whatever you're doing is right. The RM90 (about US$30) commission they give you for a RM38 (around $10) pledge is piss. Just alright if you have no other commitments, but if you have bills to pay, you'll might end up with spending more than you earn as you have to bear your own travel and food which isn't cheap anywhere in the world.

Another thing I hate is the "Bell-Gong" sessions of bullshit. Bell ringers are those who earn RM100-RM150 the previous day and gong clashers earn more than RM150 in the same time frame. The cult-like high-fiving, shouting, name chanting and such made me feel like a member of a terrorist group than an employee at a marketing firm. It's nice to have a bit of fun, like having these sessions once or twice a week, but everyday? With all the shouting in the morning, who'd have the voice to make 50 pitches from 11-6? And before all this madness is "Prime Time", where newbies (up to 20 at a time) are further indoctrinated in a small room fit only for 10 people. I was reprimanded for not joining Ku Klux Klan Session as I felt stuffy after Prime Time. I was actually sick and took 6 paracetamols within 30 minutes just to join in for the last part of KKK hour. As a normal human being, isn't it obvious that someone unwell is advised to have fresh air and rest? Not in Appco's mind. F*ck those who make money for us, that's our motto!, says Chris Niarchos.

My advise is, if you have other options, DO NOT JOIN APPCO! Run away if you see this company as they will exploit the living hell out of you for peanuts. Your position will just be like slaves working in plantations. They'll paint the perfect picture of you sitting in your own office, owning your company, swimming in gold coins like Scrooge McDuck, but its all a lie. "Look at that guy over there. His name is Lim Yu Shen. He went from newbie to owner in 9 months, fastest in Malaysia," said my Managing Director. I wonder now, does he have a soul? How many carcasses did he step over to get to his position?

Even if you're desperate for money, it's better to stay at home doing absolutely nothing or continuing your job hunt as this job drains more money out of you. I've only worked for 4 days (1 day inhouse training + 3 days on the field) has already drained me around RM200 while earning absolutely zero.

I apologize for this long tirade. For anyone seeing this, if you're accepted for an Appco interview, reject it. If you're now working for Appco and possess the naivete of a 5 year old child, please go review your life for the past months or years as an Appco slave and tell me how you feel, physically and mentally. In closing, THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE ROCK BOTTOM YOU'LL EVER REACH IN YOUR LIFE IF YOU WORK FOR APPCO!!!

  57. Can’t believe this scam is still going on! I got caught out in 2005 with a company called Platinum Force Ltd in Liverpool. I believe they are now called JMS!!!! I was straight out of uni and was so excited to have my 1st interview. Long story short, all of the above happened to me! I was told I would get a % of each sale daily and the rest would be put into a savings bond which they would then give me as a lump sum monthly. I walked around the streets 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, I was physically destroyed, I was paid an average of £80 a week. I lasted 2 months and came to my senses and realised this wasn’t right. My mum tried to tell me sooner but I really fell for the whole pyramid crap!!!! I told my boss I couldn’t physically or financially do this anymore and I was leaving. I asked for the money in my savings bond for my 2 months of sales and walking the streets, he said I would get a cheque in the post. A week later a cheque arrived for £5.73! They kept it all, I didn’t even give them the satisfaction of cashing it!!!! So please people watch out and dont go for these interviews unless its salary not just commission! Watch out!!!! I wish there was something we could do in the UK to stop this???

    1. Sorry lady, no one can stop this since it is not totally illegal, and they are just on the GREY area. So SAD...
I have read most of the posts above, and Appco didn't lie! They have offices everywhere in the world, coz obviously the same shit is happening everywhere lol!
and honestly, I just went to the second interview Today in Hong Kong. but sorry... I'm not fresh grad... I have been working for over 11 years...
the first thing seems wired, the income for beginner level is HKD 15000-40000, which is about AUD2500 - 6700 / month, the amount doesn't surprise, but the range does.
the Second thing is Promotion, he said there was a smart guy who was promoted from Sales Executive to Branch Manager in 9 months, and that sounds really funny to me, even this is true, he just reach the sales target and no need enough experience to be a branch manager, isn't that so risky for a proper company?
Third thing is, I asked him about my salary calculation, he didn't answer it properly, just said this will be further explained on final interview. wierd, i was just asking the calculation pattern, not MY salary...
Fourth, during the first and second interview, he didn't even mention any benefits, like medical, superannuanation, and most importantly, WHAT WE NEED TO DO OR SALE FOR WORK? WHAT IS THE "TARGET"?
and there were a lot more stupid things he did on the interview, but I already know this is some trick. and just now i found this post, it just prove my sixth sense is totally correct! LOL cheers~~ hope all others will find this post before they receive a call from appco or cobra or whatever they call~~

  58. I went in for an interview yesterday with a education background in HR Management and 5 years spent in the Hospitality industry. I sounded great, of course, but I still had this gut feeling that something wasn't right. I asked where I would be working out of and the question was dodged (first red flag) and I explained that I was there looking for a career change. I am getting married next summer and am saving for a house and kids etc. etc.

The guy I interviewed with (who was insanely convincing) isn't even married so I can only imagine how much of his life is actually his work. I have my "observation day" later this morning (I was just told to come in and sign paperwork for 3 hours). I am not going to it anymore after reading this thread. I spent the better part of yesterday and this morning thinking in my gut that this did not feel right. I had a terrible experience with a recruitment firm in Toronto as well because they offered me a job right away.

This is teaching me to know when to say no and to trust my gut!

Thank you all for posting your experiences so I don't waste my time and effort and money!!

  59. If you want to be successful at sales and be sustainable, you have got to work on your attitude and on your craft. After all its a profession and to be a professional you have to put in a lot of time and education and commitment. Fail, get back up and learn, fail get back up and learn until.....this is how i learn't and finally i was able to understand what is means to be a real sales person. A real sales person doesn't complain and blame others for there lack of success, but rather takes responsibility for themselves. Belief, good character, and hardwork are key traits to develop. Good Luck

  62. hi..i had an interview with appco in kolkata and was really excited till reading this.Have the second round of interview tomorrow.I somehow wanted to research and end up knowing how awful it is.Even if there is no increment as they said which was quite vague to me coz its really a big deal if u say that you are going to hire a fresher and after 12-18 months u will make her/him a branch manager.Nevertheless it will b ok if they pay me on time..But that also seems like an issue here..So i am super confused now.

  63. I worked for centrix promotions in Partamatta, NSW, Australia a few years back & it was exactly like what's been stated here. Wasn't door to door we actually were set up in shopping centres & sidewalks basically begging people for donations. My leader was quiet nice, I actually felt really sorry for her because she was soo brainwashed & put so much time & effort into her role but she was paid absolute peanuts & was apparently renting a room at the "owners" house. The owner was a real piece of work who encouraged the whole cult like aspect. I like a few others was lucky enough to be offered a decent job with benefits while doing this god awful job. The other staff there seemed okay. Some would actually steal your sales but I will say that half the workers were pretty decent & they just wanted to make some decent money. The "money" was not worth it for the time you'd spend. You'd have to be in the office around 7.30amish (from memory) to sit around & listen to the cult chants, the bells & gongs, find out your location for the day & listen to really shitty techno music, you'd get into the field around 10ish, work til around 6ish & get home around 8-9ish (& that's if you weren't too far from home) you'd get 20% of the donations you received which is pretty good but the "standard" for donations was $400 a day... That is NOT easy. I did reasonably well but I found the job to be very depressing & I was lucky to get out of there when I did. I've now managed to build a successful career in sales with a non-cult-like company that pays a salary, commissions, provides proper working hours, sick leave & annual leave (all thanks to starting with that shitty job which I only had for about 2 months) & I will never look back on leaving centrix & appco. You aren't your own boss at all but they get all the benefits out of you being a contractor (they don't have to give you sick or annual leave, if you hurt yourself they don't have to provide compensation because you're supposed to have "public liability insurance" but yet they still tell you what location you have to work at & who with, what hours you have to work & if you don't comply the owner will threaten to terminate your "employment"- YOU ARENT EVEN EMPLOYED BY THEM. Anyway, I found this article when I was searching another company that rips off their workers so I thought I'd share my experience too. Do not work for these grubs. Just don't do it.

  65. I have just finished my third month with Appco in Australia and had an AMAZING time. It's hilarious reading some of these comments. Becoming a successful person takes hours and hours and hours. People want things to be easy. Easy does not get you anywhere apart from a pension. My assistant owner was 25 years old, works his absolute balls off every single day including Saturday, never complains and sacrifices so much in order to do well. As a result he already owns his own house and is now building up his own property empire. It comes down to how much do you want it, like it will in all jobs if you truly want to control your own pathway. To all the people who are thinking over there decision after your first day then don't bother, you'll never ever ever make it.

  68. Hi Guys,

    I am from Delhi (India)
When I was fresher I was looking for job badly. I need job any how. I was just researching and updating my details over Naukri . Com.
Finally I got an email fro Appco Group.
I went there for Interview . After written test they ask me to come down for face to face Interview.
I went there and then they told me Interviews are going on and we will call you if you got selected.

I was expected a call from there end. Suddenly I go a call from a lady in a very nice voice . she congratulated me and ask me to join but no salary discussion.
they spent a week time to train me (Inhouse training) and started brain was without mentioning salary.
then they finally told me a commission per sale. there was no fix income. even the time i spent on the field I spent from my pocket. No salary, no expanses and a lot of hard word.

I always feel very tired on a daily basis it was the job of almost 13-17 hour.

Finally after wasting 15 days over there I left that job.

Lession - Please do not make any blunder by joining such type of companies.
there is no learnong, no money and only wast of energy time and money .
